| COLEOPTERA, Rhizophagidae --  <Images>
& <Juveniles>               Root-eating beetle species of genus Rhizophagus are predators of bark
beetles.  A few species live in ant
nests where they feed on the eggs and young.
Several species were imported to Canada and New Zealand from Europe
  for biological control of Scolytidae.
Rhizophagus parallelicollis Gyll. was recorded as
a carrion feeder and has been named the "graveyard beetle" because
it was thought to feed on human remains (Clausen 1940/62).  Blair (1922) indicated that it is probably
predaceous on larvae of Phoridae that occur in the same habitat.     References:   Please refer to  <biology.ref.htm>, [Additional
